Gill Over The Ground - literally all over the ground

Postby ca-archer » Sun Nov 22, 2015 8:21 pm

Was surprised to see this still growing quite well. My yard is covered with it (called over the ground for it covers large areas) and in the summer when I cut the grass, it gives me a strong, great smelling aroma. Summer time also produces small purple flowers. Mostly used for teas or tea blends, the leaves can also be steamed and eaten as a side dish of greens. I often pick and eat the leaves raw - stronger taste but also a little chewy compared to steamed.

The new joke with my wife is
"Don't kill Gill"
"but Gill takes over everything"

Gill is allowed to stay on the outside of the flower bed. I have some of my own Gill Over Ground spots too.
Hopefully plan on drying large bunches of it for tea making or a possible blended of teas....? Matter of finding the time...

I'll have to look into this. I hate the stuff, but since it's a pain to get rid of, I may just have to make peace with it and figure out what it's good for. Kinda like Donald Trump...cuz there's poison ivy out there too.

I love the way it smells when cutting the grass. Glad to know it's way Up North in that part of the country too. Who knows, you just might like to love "Gill"

Gill Over the Ground 1/4 amount of garden harvested, late July 2016, easy to keep most other grasses and weeds out, easy to cut with a knife seemed most productive and quick and easy to collect a lot. Good time to harvest I believe.

Ordered 200 tea bags for various teas, seems like only two tea bag makers in the entire world from what I read, one in china other probably about the same? Something like $3 for 200 tea bags including shipping (still amazes me with shipping). Somewhat new waters for me, have always used tea strainers of sorts and dried smaller amounts.
