A weed in your yard - Broadleaf and Common Plantains

Postby k-villa » Mon Jan 11, 2016 6:46 pm

Leaves on both are edible and from what I read best cooked. I haven't figured out the best way to get them to taste good for even boiling them didn't turn out well. Young leaves are best. I do occasionally eat them raw just cuz it's there. My Uncle Jack use to hate these weeds and every day he would be out pulling them from his yard. Pictured is the Common Plantain.

As kids, my sister and I would take the broad leaf plantain, which has a long stem with a smaller more round head on them, wrap them around our finger, and "Pop goes the head" of the plantain.

April 2016 - I just discovered the Common Plantain has a medical purpose and can be used to pack wounds and help with aid of cuts.
