Squirrels

Postby Russman » Tue Dec 01, 2015 5:07 pm

I am posting this because I want to be the first person in this area lol. In the past few years I have shot and eating more squirrel than I have in my entire life I think mostly because of the introduction to air rifles and squirrel hunting in New Jersey and the fact that I've learned how to skin them so very easily by watching a few YouTube videos it's time for some squirrel pie. I use the Benjamin NP 1500 which is an absolutely terrific gun for taking these little buggers out of the trees quiet effective and I'm knocking them down out to 60 yards.

I hear all the hype about your squirrel pot pie and how co-workers love it. I've been wanting to try it. For years the buggers chew through the roof into my barn. Last year Tris would join me as I shot them off of our bait pile before school. He got a kick out of it. Unfortunately the squirrels got freezer burnt before we could make the pot pie and this year squirrels don't seem much around. The nick name sniper was formed off of that corn pile. I will say like squirrel much better than rabbit. We had chucker tonight for dinner with vegetable stir fry which was also good though fairly masked with corn flour, honey, soy sauce and cheyenne pepper to really get true taste. Tender though.

I so often overlook squirrel, but it is so tasty. I need to get out more on the snowshoes in winter and hit them this year. That and ice fishing should help with my seasonal affective disorder ;)

I grew up ice fishing and Mr. Russ I think only ever went once. We skate, eat hot dogs, often catch fish, it's a cool experience.
